Photographic census of Hoy 2011-2013 by Pearl Sinclair
Pearl Sinclair created a fascinating photographic census of Hoy parish. This wonderful body of work gives us a picture of Hoy here and now (or there and then as it is already nearly a decade old) – archiving the present. Pearl extended the census to include the frequent visitors who come to Hoy regularly, keeping crofts in Hoy and renewing familial ties.
People hand-wrote their own histories around the images, an intimate portrait. Come by Hoy Kirk and look through the folder ‘Photographic Census of Hoy’, Pearl’s precursor to the book, a very important part of our archive.
The hard copy of the book of the project can be ordered through Blurb here.
